Title Choosing qualitative software: why does QSR have two packages (N6 and NVivo) and how to choose between them?
Year 2004
Access date 01.09.2004
Abstract Qualitative software toolkits support a wide range of research techniques, and increasingly encourage the divergence of methodological goals and techniques. This workshop is about the choice now offered by the developers of the NUD*IST software (now N6), and NVivo. Tom and Lyn Richards are the founders of QSR and leaders of its development and research services teams. In this workshop they present demonstrations using examples of real data, comparing how the different packages would handle the same data and discussing the different research directions the two packages support, and the choice for the researcher. The workshop is for researchers who use qualitative data and seek software tools to assist analysis, for those who teach and write about methodology, or for those who evaluate or supervise the research of others, requiring understanding of current technology and future trends. Finding what software can do is difficult since literature is always out of date. The workshop will include data projection of the software in action and participants will be provided with two workshop handbooks, briefly outlining for each package the processes and strategies supported.
